[NAMM] VisionDAW 8-Core Xeon Workstation
By Number-6 on 01/19/2008 at 16:45
EASTWEST has partnered with VisionDAW, a custom builder of high performance computer systems for professional composers, to introduce the VisionDAW 8-Core Xeon Server-Class Workstation.

With the help of this powerful machine, the entire new PLAY-Powered EASTWEST/QUANTUM LEAP SYMPHONIC ORCHESTRA collection will be able to be loaded on one computer.

Engineered to meet the most demanding computational and memory-loading needs of emerging native 64-bit professional audio applications such as EASTWEST’s PLAY Sample Engine, the VisionDAW 8-Core Xeon Server-Class Workstations pack phenomenal power and industry-leading technologies into a 4U rackmount chassis. The EASTWEST-configured VisionDAW 8-Core Xeon Server Class Workstation includes two 45nm Intel 2.83GHz Quad-Core Xeon 5440 Series Processors, 48 Gigabytes of Fully Buffered Memory, 1 Terabyte of data storage, Dual Monitor Support and an RME Hammerfall 9652 Audio Interface. This workstation can be customized to each user’s specific needs and workflow.

Some of the optional features not mentioned above include support for up to 128 Gigabytes of Fully Buffered Memory and 3 Terabytes of internal data storage; RAID 0, 1, 5 and 10 arrays options; dual Gigabit Ethernet ports; dual PCI Express x16 Slots GEN2, Single PCI Express x8 Slot, Dual PCI-X 64-bit/133 Slots and Single PCI 32-bit Slot.

EASTWEST’s PLAY sample engine is the industry’s first multi-platform 64-bit (with 32-bit compatibility) sampling engine. The sample engine’s built-in network control allows users to load their instruments onto other computers that are managed by the host computer. KVR switching or trips between multiple computers is no longer required when loading projects. In addition to added speed, PLAY is also a timesaver with a user-friendly browser that displays all instruments and articulations available and a “favorites” option which groups together instruments used most frequently for easy access.

The EASTWEST-configured VisionDAW 8-Core Xeon Server Class Workstation is available through and supported by VisionDAW (www.visondaw.com). VisionDAW will install and configure EASTWEST’s range of virtual instruments to optimize performance.
